The Sailing School
One of the most exhilarating sports, sailing combines physical exercise with an understanding of aero- & hydrodynamics, teamwork and the strategies of chess into hours and days of excitement or serenity. If you occasionally dream of sailing around the world, chartering a catamaran in the Caribbean, or just windsurfing on Creve Coeur Lake, our American Sailing Association (ASA) certified sailing school is just the answer for you. Under the leadership of
ASA-certified chief instructor Donald Ressel - a retired airline captain & flight instructor - our sailing school programs are based on the ASA’s guidelines leading to internationally recognized certifications for bareboat chartering of sailboats.

Upon satisfactory completion and ASA Bareboat Certification, you may bareboat charter 35-50 foot sailboats from charter companies around the world!
| ASA 105 Coastal Navigation (Prerequisite:None ) ........................................................$250/person This is a home study course. There is no sailing skills in this standard part and the practical part is found in Advanced Coastal Cruising (ASA 106). You will learn, explain and demonstrate navigational theory on charts, answer what instruments to use in navigating coastal and inland waters, how to determine the course to steer, explain terms, symbols and conventions on US charts. |
- General Description: Able to demonstrate the navigational theory required to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters. The price includes materials, proctoring of the test, plus two-hour review with an instructor prior to taking the test.

When possible, we try to match students with others of similar age and sailing experience. In order to help you get the most from your sailing experience we tailor the courses to the following audiences:
Adult Courses … normally held over a 3-day period from 9:00am -5:00pm on various dates during the spring and fall. Special schedule requests can be arranged. Class size is limited to four students to ensure maximum hands-on sailing time.
Youth Programs … These 3-day summer programs (Wednesdays — Fridays, 10:00am—5:00pm) recommended for youths ages 10 - 14 are designed to teach sailing theory and practice, aero/hydrodynamics as well as social skills and sound summer fun. Each program will consist of content from the Basic Keelboat course and will be taught using vessels ranging from dinghies to cruising sailboats. Special consideration may be taken to accommodate other age groups.
Private Lessons … may be tailored both in content and duration to the size, experience and availability of your group.
